At the annual Samsung Developer Conference, Samsung announced its latest OneUI 5 based on Android 13. The update will arrive on Samsung phones like the Galaxy S22 series, Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 in the upcoming weeks. Before that, you might want to know about some highlighted features arriving with the update.

The OneUI 5 will get a redesigned lock screen that offers more flexibility in customization for the wallpaper, clock face and colour palettes. There's also a video wallpaper option added that lets users place a short video on the lock screen. Besides that, Samsung will provide new smart suggestions for widgets and apps based on usage patterns. Routines will also feature new recognition options that help start the automation, with Modes that provides custom settings and app features for different parts of users' days – like when going to sleep or during workouts.

Furthermore, Samsung has answered to Google Screen calling by introducing the Bixby Text Call. It basically lets users take calls via text messages for the times when they don't feel like talking. Bixby Text Call is already available to users in South Korea, while the English version is planned for early 2023. Other highlights include extracting texts from images in photos through Samsung Gallery, a new Connected devices menu and privacy hub with security and privacy dashboards, and a new notification in Share Panel that warns users when they try to share photos with sensitive information like the passport or bank card details.
