According to the research firm TrendForce, their findings show that Samsung has shipped twice as many smartphones than its nearest rival, Apple. The numbers shows that the Korean company has dominated the market, grabbing over a quarter of the marketshare worldwide.
Samsung shipped over 81.5 million smartphones in Q1 of 2016, going against the industry's dropping shipment trend and raising more than 2.5%, above shipments of Q4 2015. Apple's numbers fell hard after the holiday sales: 42 million smartphones were shipped in Q1 2016, compared to 75 million in Q4 2015. This is a 43.8% decrease year on year.
Other manufacturers in the market also gained marketshare, with the exception of Huawei which dropped 0.2% - small, but a drop nevertheless. This reflects some sentiment in the market, plus the fact that Apple only announced two new models in the last quarter, where Samsung announced a multitude of models for multiple markets. We shall see how Apple fares in the next quarter, after the introduction of the Apple Phone SE.
