SanDisk is officially part of Western Digital

Logos.jpgAfter going through layers and layers of paperwork, Western Digital has finally finalised their purchase of SanDisk . They will be paying for the memory chip company for USD 16 billion dollars, which is a lot of money for chips.

SanDisk is a leading provider of chips used for data storage in a wide variety of devices, including smartphones, tablets and PCs. The deal will help SanDisk, which has a strong retail business, to move up the ladder into the enterprise market, where Western Digital is strongest. Western Digital gets the ability to offer chip-based storage in areas where its disk drive technology is losing ground.

SanDisk will continue to collaborate with Toshiba for vertically-integrated storage solutions. Toshiba has provided NAND flash storage for Apple’s iPhones and many other smartphone brands around the world.
