Santan (coconut milk) replaces plastic with PLA and uses AI to reduce food waste

Santan, a brand under Capital A, is now using plant-based, eco-friendly materials (PLA) to replace plastic in its flights. Items such as cups, lids, and cutlery are now made from Polylactic Acid (PLA), which is derived from natural sources such as corn and cassava. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, PLA decomposes faster than regular plastic and can be composted, including at home. This achievement is the result of a collaboration with Rightway New Material, which has enabled Santan to reduce its carbon footprint by 500 tonnes per year in Malaysia and Thailand. This initiative will be expanded to all airlines under AirAsia.

In addition, Santan also uses AI technology to manage food resources more efficiently, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. So, we should wait for more confirmation from AirAsia.
