Selangor ramps up 5G connectivity in the state, set to build another 1553 network towers this year

The Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today confirmed that the state would be building 1553 5G network transmitters in the state this year. He further elaborated that the installations will be done in four stages.

Speaking at the Selangor State Legislative Assmebly (DUN) today, Amirudin said that the 5G network is capable of providing fast internet of up to 10Gbps with 1ms latency. The network will also benefit up to 1 million devices per square kilometre.

As reported by national news agency Bernama, the Selangor Menteri Besar said that the towers are poised to be built at 5 of the state’s districts. These include Sepang (185 units), Petaling (560 units), Klang (272 units), Hulu Langat (345) and Gombak (191).

He further elaborated that out of the total 1553 towers, 361 would be built in the first quarter of 2022, 442 in the second quarter, 393 in the third quarter and 357 in the fourth quarter. Amirudin also confirmed that the state government through SMARTSEL Sdn Bhd is drafting a proposal for cooperation with Malaysia’s single wholesale network provider, Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

The Selangor Menteri Besar revealed these information in reply to a question by the Assemblyperson for Bukit Gasing, Rajiv Rishyakaran in the Selangor DUN today. Rajiv asked about the state government’s plan to ensure that the installation of the network towers did not disturb nearby communities.
