Following the severe floods that plagued most of the state in December last year, the Selangor State Government has announced that a new flood warning system will be operational by the end of this month. The high-tech system will be able to predict floods 7 days in advance as well as areas in Selangor that will be affected.

The matter was announced yesterday by the Selangor State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Izham Hashim who believed that Selangor will soon be able to manage future floods more effectively with the new system in place. As reported by Malay Mail, Izham said that the 7 days advance notice will help to put rescue teams on alert to respond to any rise in water levels.

Izham further revealed that the severe floods last December led to the Selangor State Government reviewing its flood management system. Besides the new flood warning system, Selangor will also be installing automated system for waterway sluice gates which allows for more swift action when it floods.

He further elaborated that with an automated system for water gates, the authorities won’t have to send personnel to handle them manually on site. Furthermore, the State Government will also prepare more electricity generators for emergencies, especially since power stations are susceptible to shut down when it floods, such as what happened last week.

Let’s hope that these measures will help in mitigating the adverse effects of floods in Selangor in the future. What do you guys think? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and as always, stay tuned to TechNave for all the latest tech news in Malaysia and beyond!
