Over the weekend, the Board of Directors of Digi.Com Berhad and Axiata Group Berhad announced the companies' shareholders had approved the proposed merger of Digi and Celcom's operations at its Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). A formal filing on the outcome of the EGM will be made to Bursa Malaysia once the market reopens in the coming week.

The outcome of the EGM by poll vote has been submitted to Bursa Securities (Bursa) as required by the applicable regulations. As shareholders of Axiata have given the nod, the merger moves closer to completion, having previously cleared the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Securities Commission and Bursa before this EGM.

At completion, Axiata and Telenor will hold equal ownership of 33.1% each in the newly merged company, which is proposed to be named Celcom Digi Berhad.
