Today, Google announced the integration of ShopeePay and TNG eWallet (an Alipay+ Partner) with Google Pay in Malaysia. With this, it marks Google Pay's first eWallet integrations in Southeast Asia, which will enable Android users in Malaysia to check out seamlessly with selected online merchants.

As of 2024, 88% of Malaysians are using eWallets. So by incorporating both ShopeePay and TNG eWallet, Google Pay now offers consumers more choices in addition to card payments and extends cashless payments to the underbanked. Google is planning to expand and support more partners in the future.

This integration of Google Pay with widely used local eWallets allows Malaysians to do the usual online transactions, including shopping, food delivery, and bill payments. All the users have to do is select the Google Pay button at checkout or select “eWallet” when prompted in Chrome to pay directly with ShopeePay or TNG eWallet.

On that note, users making first-time payments with their preferred eWallet on Google Pay will be prompted for a one-time verification for enhanced security. Once completed, they will be able to make one-click payments through Google Pay subsequently, without the need for switching apps.
