In just a few hours ago, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg officially announced that Facebook Shops will roll out on the platform today. According to his Facebook post, the initiative is to help SMEs to start a shop online and sell their things directly on Facebook. In other words, this will sort of work like Lazada and Shopee where customers can view the products, purchase, and even read the company's goals and vision.

According to Mark, he said creating Facebook Shops is easy (and free). Since Facebook Shops is directly on the platform, your shop will appear on your Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as on Messenger and WhatsApp too soon. Speaking of other accounts, Facebook plans to integrate a few features to help people discover SMEs such as a dedicated shopping tab on Instagram and a new Live Shopping features that lets you shop in real-time.

On top of that, Facebook Shops will also utilize their own AI and augmented reality (AR) technology to assist customers in their shopping experiences. For example, when customers click-through to purchase on things they like, Facebook Shops can automatically identify and tag products in their feeds. SMEs can also personalize their online stores and with the use of AR, customers can virtually try many products like sunglasses, household items, and others to see how they might look on you before purchasing.

Mark Zuckerberg hopes that with Facebook Shops, this will help some SMEs who are facing a tough economical time during this pandemic period. But what do you think?
