After the much teased Snapdragon naming scheme, Qualcomm has officially unveiled the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 premium 5G mobile platform. As mentioned before in our previous news, the new Snapdragon 8 leads the way into a new era of premium mobile technology. This includes 5G, AI, mobile gaming, camera, WiFi and Bluetooth technologies.

For starters, one of the key features for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is none other than the 5G connectivity. It's equipped with the 4th gen Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System which makes it the world’s first 5G modem-RF solution to reach 10 Gigabit download speeds. Moreover, it also features the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System supporting the fastest WiFi speeds available - up to 3.6 Gbps - over Wi-Fi 6 and 6E even with multiple devices on one network.

With the 7th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine, it's equipped with an ultra-high Qualcomm Hexagon processor, featuring a 2x faster tensor accelerator and 2x larger shared memory than its predecessor. Qualcomm integrated an AI-based natural language processing that can be your assistant by prioritizing and analyzing your notifications, it can even analyze a user’s vocal patterns to determine if a user is at risk for health conditions such as asthma, depression, and COVID-19.

This new chipset also includes the world's first 18-bit ISP that allows a phone to capture over 4000x more camera data as well as the first 8K HDR video capture in HDR10+ format. At a speed of up to 3.2 gigapixels per second, Qualcomm said the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has a fourth separated ISP, the new Always-On ISP, which allows the camera to run with extremely low power consumption so users can experience always-on face unlocking and locking.

In the gaming corner, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has over 50 Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, a new Qualcomm Adreno GPU providing a 30% boost in graphics rendering and 25% improvement in power savings compared to the predecessor. On top of that, Qualcomm installed an Adreno Frame Motion Engine that generates twice as many frames while maintaining the same power consumption. Game developers may also take advantage of the Variable Rate Shading Pro to further tune game performance.

Moving on, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset allows users to connect Bluetooth 5.2 thanks to the Snapdragon Sound technology, now featuring Qualcomm aptX Lossless Technology for CD-quality lossless wireless audio. Then for security, this is the first Snapdragon platform to feature a dedicated Trust Management Engine to provide additional Root of Trust for apps and services. Another noteworthy world's first feature is Android Ready SE for digital car keys, drivers’ licenses, and more.
