Some iPhone 14 models may not have the physical SIM card slot

In another related news to the Apple iPhone 14 series, it seems Apple was thinking of removing another feature. In Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter, he said that Apple actually did think of removing a SIM card slot as early as this year.

It wasn't the first time that we heard about Apple going towards a pure eSIM iPhone before, but it's not a piece of news that you hear often. Some iPhone 14 models could be revealed without the SIM card slot but quite unlikely, as Gurman said that this feature could most likely happen for the iPhone 15 series.

Here's an excerpt that he said in his newsletter:

"Apple will give eSIM a bigger push this time around, with carriers preparing to steer users toward the digital, embedded SIM cards rather than physical ones," Gurman wrote in his newsletter. "In fact, Apple has considered removing the physical SIM card slot altogether beginning either this year or next for some models."

For those who don't know, an eSIM is a type of digital SIM without needing a physical SIM card. Users who are on eSIM can also activate a cellular plan from a telco. In Malaysia's case, the big four players - Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile - all have it but the popularity of adopting it hasn't reached its full potential.

Well, we will just have to wait and see and we don't need to wait that long. The next Apple Event will be happening on 7 September 2022. In Malaysia's timing, the livestream will begin at 1 AM via apple.com, the apple TV app and YouTube. Stay tuned for our official news coverage at TechNave.com.
