All the hard work has finally paid off! Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog took the crown by having the biggest box office opening compared to other movies that are based on video games. Although the movie had a ‘tough’ one after the first version of its trailer was released, the visual effect team still managed to make a comeback to prove they can right the wrong at the end.

The movie has pulled in 57 million USD (~RM219 million) after three days from its launch in the US, surpassing Detective Pikachu which previously held a record of 54.3 million USD (~RM225 million). Globally, the movie generated another 43 million USD (~RM178 million) which brings its opening total to 100 million USD (~~RM414 million), beating movies like Tomb Raider and Warcraft.

If you still remember, the movie was slammed by the Internet as the ‘re-imagined’ Sonic appeared to be rather creepy in the first trailer. After that, Paramount Pictures announced that they will take in the comments and redesign the character once again (applause for listening to what we want!). Now, the movie has come back hard and we’ll definitely go to the cinema to witness the glory.
