Today, Sonos unveiled two new speakers, the Sonos Play and the Sonos Era 100 SL. Arriving just ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the launch positions the speakers as an ideal addition for Malaysian households preparing to host family and friends during the festive season.
The Sonos Play
The Sonos Play is positioned as the brand’s most versatile speaker, designed to deliver rich stereo sound both at home and on the move. When connected over WiFi, the speaker can be grouped with other Sonos devices across different rooms or paired with another unit for stereo sound. A dedicated charging base allows the speaker to remain anchored in the home when not in portable use.
For outdoor listening, the Sonos Play features a durable design with an IP67 water resistance rating and offers up to 24 hours of battery life. The speaker also includes a removable utility loop for easier portability and even doubles as a power bank for charging smartphones.

One notable feature is the ability to group multiple speakers directly through Bluetooth when away from home. Users can connect the Sonos Play to their phone and sync up to three additional compatible speakers, such as the Sonos Move 2. The speaker also includes automatic Trueplay tuning that dynamically adjusts the sound based on the surrounding environment.
The Era 100 SL
Alongside the portable Sonos Play, the Sonos Era 100 SL provides a simplified entry point into the Sonos ecosystem. The speaker features a microphone-free design and a streamlined feature set while still delivering room-filling audio performance. It can operate as a standalone speaker but is also designed to expand easily into a multi-room setup, stereo pair, or home theater system.
Chris Kallai, Vice President of Product Creation at Sonos, said the goal was to ensure the first speaker someone brings home already delivers a complete listening experience, while also becoming more powerful as additional speakers are added to the system.
Designed for Seamless Listening Across the Home
Both speakers support a wide range of listening options, including WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Users can access more than 100 streaming services, control playback through voice assistants, and stream content using platforms such as Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2. The speakers are also integrated with the Sonos app, allowing users to manage their music, devices, and listening spaces from a single interface.
According to the company, continuous platform updates and cross-generational compatibility ensure the system evolves rather than forcing users to replace their existing devices.
