2024 was not a good year for Sonos as various issues with their new smartphone app led to the company's CEO resigning at the insistence of the board. 2025 may be the year Sonos breaks into new product categories, with The Verge reporting that they will launch their first TV box. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, the TV box with the codename Pinewood is being developed as a streaming box with the Android operating system. However, the interface used is different from Google TV to offer a more attractive user experience. The design will be boxy with a taper on the front. This is almost the same as the Google TV Streamer that was launched last year.
Among the features supported is a local content search hub for various installed streaming apps. This is similar to the feature offered by the JustWatch app. It will also come with a physical remote control which is not offered on their audio products. Finally, it also supports the Sonos Voice feature allowing for full voice control. When launched, the Pinewood will be priced between $200-$400 making it one of the most expensive TV boxes on the market.
