If you want some top-notch surround sound for your AV setup, a soundbar is probably the way to go. It's not as good as a high-end HiFi system, but it's more affordable and way more compact. For that, you can take a look at Sony's new HT-A5000.

Yesterday, Sony quietly unveiled the HT-A5000 soundbar on its website. This is the little brother of the HT-A7000 launched a few months back and offers 5.1.2-channel audio instead of 7.1.2. It has two up-firing speakers that work with Sony's Vertical Surround Engine and three front-firing speakers to create surround sound. There are also two built-in subwoofers to add bass.

In terms of features, the HT-A5000 comes with support for 8K, 4K/120FPS, and Dolby Vision passthrough. There are also features like S-Force Pro Front Surround, Sound Field Optimisation, voice assistance, and more. If the soundbar alone isn't enough, you can even add some optional Sony speakers like the SA-SW5 (subwoofer) or SA-RS3S (speaker unit) to upgrade your audio setup.

The Sony HT-A5000 will retail for USD900 (~RM3734), making it reasonably affordable for a high-end 5.1.2-channel soundbar. But would you spend this much for a speaker setup, or do you prefer powerful headphones? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
