After its initial teaser, Sony finally unveiled a new LinkBuds lineup with the introduction of the Sony LinkBuds Clip. As you can see from the cover image, it is a new pair of open-ear, clip-on form factor that attaches around the ear, allowing users to listen to music, calls or podcasts while remaining aware of their surroundings.
The Open-Ear Design Approach
The core of the LinkBuds Clip is Sony’s open-air philosophy. By resting outside the ear canal, the earbuds reduce pressure and fatigue during long listening sessions. Each earbud weighs around 6.4g, making them light enough for extended wear, while the clip mechanism is designed to keep them secure during daily activities.
Sony positions this design as ideal for everyday multitasking, whether it’s listening to music while working, taking calls on the move or staying alert when outdoors. The earbuds are offered in multiple colour options, including black, green, greige and lavender, adding a lifestyle element to the product.
The Audio Specs
Despite their compact, open-ear form, the LinkBuds Clip are equipped with a 10mm driver unit. Sony lists a Bluetooth frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz, and the earbuds support SBC and AAC codecs. To help compensate for compressed audio, Sony includes its DSEE digital sound enhancement, which upscales audio for a fuller listening experience.
As with most open-ear designs, the focus here is not on heavy bass or immersive isolation. Instead, the sound profile is intended to be clear and balanced at moderate volumes, suitable for background listening, voice content and casual music playback.
Smart Features
Sony has also placed emphasis on call quality. The LinkBuds Clip use AI-assisted voice pickup technology to help isolate the user’s voice during calls, even though the earbuds sit outside the ear canal. This is paired with software features such as voice enhancement modes and sound leakage reduction, aimed at improving clarity for both the wearer and people nearby.
Through Sony’s Sound Connect app, users can fine-tune audio settings, adjust equaliser preferences and manage listening modes, giving the earbuds a level of customisation that goes beyond basic playback controls.
Battery Life and Connectivity
Battery life is one of the strongest points of the LinkBuds Clip for an open-ear product. Sony rates the earbuds at up to nine hours of music playback on a single charge, with the charging case extending overall usage further. Charging takes approximately 1.5 hours via USB, and the case itself remains compact at around 42g.
On the connectivity side, the earbuds support Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint connectivity, allowing them to stay connected to two devices simultaneously. This makes switching between a smartphone and a laptop more seamless for users who move between work and personal devices throughout the day. The LinkBuds Clip are also rated IPX4, offering protection against sweat and light splashes.
Price and Availability
According to sources, the new Sony LinkBuds Clip is priced at RM899; however, the official website does not currently reflect this information, nor its availability. Moreover, Sony's online stores, such as on Lazada and Shopee, have not announced the availability as well.
Whatever the case may be, the LinkBuds Clip is definitely arriving in Malaysia since it appeared on Sony Malaysia's website. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
