If you have an existing watch and want to use it rather than a smartwatch, Sony has an alternative for you. The company has unveiled a new Wena 3 smart strap on the Sony Japan website. It will be available on 27 November 2020 with prices starting from 24000 yen (~RM949), but may only be available in Japan.

The Wena 3 is a device that works like a smartband, except you attach it to a regular watch as a replacement for the strap. That way, you get to wear your favourite branded watch but add some smart features to it. Speaking of the strap, you get a choice of rubber, leather, and metal. They'll be priced at 24000 yen (~RM949), 30000 yen (~RM1186), and 33000 yen (~RM1305) with Japanese tax included. If it ever comes to Malaysia, expect the price to be very different.

So, what can you do with the device? Well, the small screen mainly gives you access to the notifications, alarms, and timers from your phone. It also has a mic and supports the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, as well as NFC so you can do digital payments. But perhaps the biggest features would be the heart rate sensor that can detect blood-oxygen level and estimate VO2 Max for you.

I find this a lot more interesting, but this smart strap is not exactly more affordable than a smartwatch. Having said that, would you be interested in getting one? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
