Today, Sony has revealed a brand new Xperia 1 IV phone and it's also the world's first True Optical Zoom Lens and more. Just like its predecessors, Sony emphasises a lot of camera functions for the lineup and the Xperia 1 IV is no different. There's also a new Xperia 10 IV that is the lesser variant but let's focus on the Xperia 1 IV for now.

As a continuation of the Xperia series, this flagship features a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Also as expected, the display supports the usual 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch scanning rate. Sony also added a new 240Hz Motion Blue reduction which sounds good on paper and is the first that we have heard on a phone.

Just like the predecessors, Sony continues on the 12MP triple rear camera but with much better lenses. For one, one sensor is using an 85-125mm lens so that makes it the first True Optical Zoom Lens as aforementioned. Furthermore...

  • All three cameras have a 120FPS high-speed readout image sensor
  • Cinematic video expression with 4K 120fps, up to 5x slow-motion video recording
  • Real-time Eye autofocus (AF) and 20fps AF/AE burst shooting in HDR on all three lenses
  • “Videography Pro,” and “External monitor” functions with live streaming
  • About 50% Brighter 4K 120Hz HDR display and Real-time HDR drive

As you can see, Sony didn't hold back on upgrading the Xperia 1 IV at all. Other features are worth mentioning too, like Game Enhancer, Music Pro function, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and IP65/68 water and dust resistance. As for the other interior specs, you can find a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 5000mAh battery (with fast charging) 12GB of RAM and 256GB UFS storage with microSDXC support up to 1TB.

For some odd reason, the Xperia 1 IV has been chosen as the official device for the PUBG MOBILE E-sports Global Tournament 2022. We guess that Sony wants to promote it as a powerhouse gaming phone instead of being camera-centric only. The packaging size is also 50% less to reduce CO2 emissions, and that means there's no charging cable and adapter inside the box.

Sony has confirmed that the Xperia 1 IV will be available in Malaysia from early July 2022. Are you still an Xperia fan? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
