Today, Sony gave a surprise announcement of the Xperia 1 VII. It is scheduled to launch in Malaysia in mid-July 2025, but no official price has been revealed yet. Anyway, here is everything you need to know about the new Xperia 1 VII.

Compared to its few predecessors, the Xperia 1 VII doesn't look too different in terms of design. It sports a 6.5-inch 120Hz OLED display, with FHD+ resolution and a couple of display features such as BRAVIA technology and Sunlight Vision. In addition, it is a tough phone thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the display, while the back is using the 1st-Gen Victus.

While the front camera is 12MP, the Xperia 1 Vii has a triple rear camera consisting of a 52MP (main) + 12MP (telephoto) + 50MP (ultrawide) setup. All three are equipped with Exmor sensors, and the main one (the middle) uses Zeiss lens technology with 244mm and F1.9 aperture. Users can also switch the camera mode to a different megapixel if they wish, particularly on the main or ultrawide camera, for different results.

Powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, it runs on 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS storage, alongside expandable memory support of up to 2TB via microSDXC card. The battery pack is 5,000mAh, and Sony claimed that it could last up to two days of usage. The company also promises four years of OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the Android 15 phone.

Another minor thing that should get tech enthusiasts excited is the existence of an audio jack port. The Xperia 1 VII is powered by Walkman, so you can plug in your best headset for an immersive music experience. Lastly, the phone will be coming in Moss Green, Orchid Purple and Slate Black. Sony also mentioned Xperia Intelligence in its presentation, although it functions to improve the phone with Camera AI, Display AI and Audio AI.

Currently, the Xperia costs $1,989 (~RM6.6K) in Singapore, so that's a good gauge of how much it could cost here. For reference, the predecessor was RM6,099 when it first launched in Malaysia three years ago. We will wait and see when Sony Malaysia announces the launch here, so stay tuned for that only at TechNave.com.
