Unlike other smartphone brands, Sony has its own way when it comes to launching new smartphones. By not having any rumours or leaks, Sony has surprisingly dropped the Sony Xperia 8 Lite in Japan today. In fact, it is not considered a Sony smartphone with everything new. The Xperia 8 Lite is actually a rebranded Xperia 10 with different cameras. Now, let's look at what are the things that the Sony mid-range device offers!

The Sony Xperia 8 Lite features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Sadly, the device offers a rather small battery capacity at 2,870mAh. For the screen, it features a 6-inch LCD Triluminous Display with support for Full HD+ resolution and a tall aspect ratio of 21:9. To top it all off, it is also shielded by Gorilla Glass 6. The Sony Xperia 8 Lite measures 158 x 69 x 8.1mm and weighs 170 grams.

Coming to the new camera module, the dual-camera system brings a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and an 8MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture to replace the one with 13MP and 5MP on the Xperia 10. It is also worth mentioning that the cameras support AI scene detection and 2x optical zoom. On the front, Sony is doing it the old-school style by placing an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture in a thick bezel.

Besides the main tech specs, the device will also have 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. There will also be a Side Sense bar that shows up on the screen to give quick access to apps and settings when users double tap on the right edge. However, we have no idea why a 2020 smartphone will still be running Android 9 Pie OS out of the box. This is a thing that we think Sony could do better. The device will be priced at 29,800 Yen (~RM1,168) in Japan with colour options including Black and White.
