Most mini versions of smartphones tend to be underpowered with the only similarity being the design. However, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact isn't like other mini smartphones but was rumoured to have all the tech specs and features of the Sony Xperia Z1, just squeezed into a smaller package. Thankfully, this was confirmed to be true when it was announced recently. The still very impressive tech specs for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact include:

  • 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (Adreno 330 GPU, MSM8974)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB storage + up to 64GB microSD
  • 4.3-inch Triluminous display (IPS, 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, 341ppi)
  • 20.7 MP rear camera (Carl Zeiss lens, optical image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash) + 2MP front camera (1080p @ 30fps video recording)
  • supports NFC, A-GPS+GLONASS, WLAN (2.4/5Ghz) a/b/g/n/ac, microUSB 2.0 (MHL), BlueTooth 4.0 LE, FM Radio, built-in accelerometer, multi-touch input, proximity sensor
  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (4.4 KitKat update soon)
  • 2,300 mAh battery
  • 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm | 137g
  • certified waterproof IP55 + IP58 and dust resistant IP55

Coming in Black, Lime green, Pink, White and Yellow, the only tech specs that changed were the 720p resolution (it was full HD 1080p in the Xperia Z1) and a smaller 2300 mAh battery, but this is more due to size constraints than anything else. The Xperia Z1 Compact is still waterproof and dust resistant. While there wasn't any Malaysia release dates, we should be able to expect a global roll-out after it gets released in February 2014.
