Today's computers often have slots for not just USB flash memory but also flash memory SD cards. Most of the time we just use these occasionally to transfer images or videos from our digital cameras or camcorders but now you can use it to automatically backup files on your Windows-based PC or notebook computer. Creating the World's first automatic Backup SD card, Sony's new flash memory automatically creates backup copies of important documents or folder from your system in real-time. In addition to this, backup files are automatically encrypted through Sony's proprietary backup software with secure password access. The Sony Backup SD Cards will be available for the following capacities and prices:
| Sony Backup SD card | |
| Capacity | Pricing |
| 16GB | S$42.90 | RM110.74 |
| 32GB | S$69.90 | RM180.44 |
| 64GB | S$129.90 | RM335.32 |
So far, the Sony Backup SD cards only work for Windows-based PCs and notebook computers and due to the size restraints will probably only be useful for the really important files or folders. However, if you're just backing up your important pictures, videos or content or even all all your email, even the lowest capacity 16GB Backup SD card should be enough as most such folders are usually less then 10GB or so. Sony currently offers a special 30-day trial that allows users to try out the Backup SD card function with non-Sony SD cards through their Sony Backup SD card software. The software is made to work best with the Sony Backup SD card though so Sony has a disclaimer up saying you take your own risks using it with different SD card brands. The Sony Backup SD cards should be available at selected countries in the Asia Pacific region like Malaysia starting from the middle of September 2013.
