Sony today announced that it intends to start producing mobile games for iOS and Android devices after the successful acquisition of Savage Game Studios. Moreover, the Japanese tech giant also revealed that it has created a new PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which Savage Game Studios will be joining.

In a blog post, Sony said that its mobile gaming efforts will not take away anything from its work on console gaming. Instead, the mobile division will be ‘additive’ and will provide new ways for people to engage with PlayStation content and reach new audiences unfamiliar with PlayStation and its games.

Savage Game Studios is touted by Sony as having “many years of experience making some of the most popular mobile games”. In fact, the founders of the game studio have worked for companies such as Rovio, Zynga and Wargaming.

The PlayStation Studios Mobile Division will operate independently of Sony’s console team. It will focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP. Currently, the division is working on a new “unannounced AAA mobile live service action game”.
