Sony is reportedly developing an artificial intelligence (AI) version of a PlayStation game character, with Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West as the prototype. This revelation was made through an internal video presented by Sharwin Raghoebardajal, Director of Software Engineering at Sony Interactive Entertainment. So, what should you know about it?

In a video that has now been deleted from YouTube, Raghoebardajal shows how the AI version of Aloy's character is able to interact with players using voice commands during gameplay. Aloy not only responds with an AI-based synthetic voice but also displays realistic facial movements, both in the demo environment and in the full game Horizon Forbidden West.

However, according to Raghoebardajal, it was just a prototype developed with Guerrilla Games for Sony's internal demonstration. The tech demo uses OpenAI's Whisper for voice-to-text transcription, as well as GPT-4 and Llama 3 for conversation and decision-making. In addition, Sony also has its own in-house system, Emotional Voice Synthesis (EVS), for voice generation, while audio-to-face animation is powered by Mockingbird technology.

Although the prototype ran on PC, Sony also tested its capabilities on the PS5 console. At this time, it is still unclear what Sony's plans are with the technology or whether it will be used in actual games in the future.
