It was a horrible weekend for PlayStation gamers, as the PlayStation Network (PSN) had an outage for unknown reasons. The servers came back online on Sunday evening yesterday due to an operational issue. To compensate for this, Sony decided to offer an additional five days of PSN service.
Five days of PSN services may not sound like a lot but it's more than enough to make up for almost two days of lost access. Plus, not all was lost if the PS5 and PS4 gamers were playing single-player campaigns over the weekend offline. That said, multiplayer games such as the popular Helldivers 2 require PSN to play together and nothing from the PS store could be bought. Digital copies of video games could also be launched and played normally, but selected titles that are free to download from the monthly PS Plus offers were denied.
Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.

The last PSN outage that happened was many years ago, back in 2011 which lasted 23 days due to a hacking attack. Still, it would have been nice if Sony provided a more detailed and specific reason why the outage happened this time.
