A recent filing at the US Patent and Trademark office website may just share what Sony has up their sleeves. While many other companies are trying to add control devices for their devices, Sony is designing a “wearable input device” that can control not just your smartphone, but all other devices and appliances around you – and it looks like a ring to you and me.

The patent states that the ring will house sensors that would be able to detect motion and other interactions made by the user wearing the device. The patent is not just for the ring device, but for whole systems that can receive instructions from the ring, and even perhaps go from one device to another, dragging along content plus information to be transferred between two devices.

While many patents are just filed to preserve the ideas from being duplicated by other companies, we may see this ring come to fruition by the engineers at Sony as this control device can bridge their whole range of products, from their TVs all the way to their Xperia line of smartphones. This could be their One Ring?
