As the chipset shortage issue continues, so will the PlayStation 5 which is already a hard device to acquire itself. According to Bloomberg, the sources there claimed that Sony is looking to decrease the production figure from 16 million units to around 15 million units for Q1 2022.

Furthermore, this echoes to Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki during an investor call last month. Sources say that due to the shortages, the supply issues are getting worse and the pandemic restrictions in each country may have impacted the PS5 production. Meanwhile in Malaysia, many game stores and Sony Malaysia itself are still having PS5 pre-orders even after a year.

Despite the chipset shortage, the PS5 is still Sony's fastest-selling console. As of July 2021, it has already sold 10 million units and many gamers are still demanding. The pandemic probably played a big role as many people were stuck at home but this may change as things seem to be going back to normal now.

Are you still trying to get your hands on the PS5? We think at this point, perhaps it's better to get secondhand (if any) or none at all as the economy is slowly reopening and recovering. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
