If you have already gotten yourself a PS5 and a Sony BRAVIA XR TV series, you're in for a treat. According to Sony, there will be two brand-new PS5 exclusive features (software updates) that are 'Perfect for PlayStation 5'.
The two features that Sony mentioned are Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. For the former, it is simply a new HDR setting that optimises your PS5 initial setup. As long as the PS5 can automatically recognise the individual BRAVIA XR TV model, it will select the best HDR setting for the TV accordingly. The optimised HDR tone mapping level will be synchronised to BRAVIA display specs.
Auto HDR Tone Mapping
As for the Auto Genre Picture Mode, BRAVIA XR TVs can detect whether you are playing a game or watching movies and TV shows. If you turn on the mode, your TV automatically switches into Game Mode when gaming or to Standard Mode when watching movies via a streaming service or from an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc on the PS5. This helps to minimise input lag and shift picture processing respectively.
Just so you know, it's not only a software update for the Sony BRAVIA XR TVs but the PS5 as well. Both Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode features will be available by the end of January 2022 so stay tuned for that. In addition, Sony also said that the HT-A9 Home Theatre System or the HT-A7000 and HT-A5000 soundbars are compatible with the software updates too which is coming in Spring 2022.
