The South Korean government is planning to launch the world's first 6G network service in 2028. Part of its K-Network 2030 plan, the implementation of the next-generation network has been expedited by 2 years in a bid to secure early dominance of future wireless frequencies.

As reported by Malay Mail/Bernama, the South Korean ICT ministry asserted that the country will secure world-class 6G technologies and innovate the software-based next-generation mobile network. Furthermore, the county also aims to strengthen the network supply chain.

As part of the plan, the South Korean ICT ministry will conduct a feasibility study for a research and development project on core 6G technologies worth KRW625.3 billion or ~RM2.14 billion. Moreover, the country will also encourage local companies to produce materials, parts and equipment for the next-generation mobile network technology in the country.

These include the development of an open RAN or open radio access network which is compatible with any mobile device. As such allows for any mobile carriers and enterprises to offer flexible 6G network services.
