Spotify is reportedly preparing to roll out its long-delayed lossless audio streaming feature, possibly under a new Music Pro tier.
According to recent app code findings, the tier could be priced at around USD 5.99 per month (approximately RM30) on top of the existing Premium subscription.
While Spotify has yet to officially announce a release date, code snippets found in recent app updates suggest the feature is nearing launch, potentially sometime in late 2025.
Lossless Audio finally coming to Spotify?
Spotify first teased its HiFi tier back in 2021, but the feature never saw a public rollout. Now, new code spotted by app modding tool Spicetify and developer Chris Messina references “lossless” audio streaming within the app’s settings.
These snippets mention streaming at up to 24-bit/44.1kHz quality on Spotify Connect and the web player. There are also warnings about higher data usage and the need for compatible hardware—hinting that not all devices may support the format out of the box. Reports also indicate testing is underway on iOS, further confirming that internal development is active.
What is Spotify Music Pro?
According to reports from Bloomberg and TechRadar, Spotify plans to introduce a Music Pro tier, bundling lossless audio with other premium features. This may include:
- Advanced remix tools
- Early access to concert tickets
- Exclusive artist content
- Enhanced audio controls
The add-on is expected to cost USD 5.99 (RM30) on top of the standard Premium tier, which is currently USD 10.99 (about RM52). This could bring the full monthly cost for Music Pro users to approximately USD 16.98 (RM82).
How does it compare to other services?
Spotify’s rivals already offer lossless or hi-res audio at no extra cost. For example:
Apple Music offers lossless and spatial audio included with its base plan.
Amazon Music HD provides similar quality without additional charges.
Tidal HiFi and Qobuz support up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution for high-end setups.
Spotify’s implementation appears limited to 24-bit/44.1kHz, which is closer to CD quality than true high-res. Audiophiles may find this underwhelming, though most casual users with basic earbuds may not notice the difference.
Will Malaysians pay more for HiFi Audio?
Spotify’s Music Pro tier could launch globally later in 2025. While details are still unofficial, the signs are strong that lossless audio is finally on the way—albeit at a premium.
Would you pay RM30 more each month for better audio and exclusive content?
