A start-up company out of Beijing wants everyone to have a VR experience without breaking the bank. While other mobile VR goggles needs a smartphone to work in tandem with the headset, the Pico Neo is a standalone device that itself is an Android device running Marshmallow without the need of any additional hardware.

The Pico Neo targets a middle market between low-end devices like Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR and higher-end products like the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. What makes this device unique is that the bulk of the processing power is not in the headset, but in the controller unit. This keeps the headset light and comfortable to use for longer period of times.

Running the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which is paired with 4 gigs of RAM and 32GB of internal storage expandable via microSD. It runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box. Inside the headset, there are two screens - pixel each rocking a 1,200 x 1,080 resolution. This puts the Pico Neo at the same resolution as the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. With a 5000mAh battery, VR playtime is up to 3 hours  without the hassle of any wires, and when you do need to recharge, you won’t have to wait long because the Pico Neo supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0.

The device will launch later this summer with a price tag of 3,399 Yuan, which comes out to about RM 2118. If you want to forego the controller and just hook the headset up to your computer, then you can get just the headset for 1,899 Yuan or RM 1184. The question is, will they release it now that Google has announced Daydream VR and the reference headset?
