Today, the big four Malaysian telecommunication companies Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile got together with telecommunications Infrastructure Company, edotco and announced a collaboration to standardise the industry’s Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements for a safer working culture across the industry.

Under this collaboration, the companies have agreed to a single common set of minimum HSE requirements for all main contractors and sub-contractors undertaking network infrastructure works at any of the telco sites.

It has already taken effect since 1 September 2016, as contractors are required to comply adhere to the new set of guidelines which will enable a more systematic approach to safety, reduce incident risks and will benefit the industry as a whole in having a safer work environment. Strict action will be taken against contractors who fail to comply.

Furthermore, workshops and training courses will be conducted for these contractors so they will be well equipped to adhere to the new set of safety requirements.
