After the recent development of Starlink, Malaysians can now place orders for the company’s internet satellite service. In case you didn’t know, Starlink is a satellite broadband service under SpaceX.

Space X intends to deliver high-speed broadband with lower latency than traditional GEO satellites. Based on Starlink’s Malaysia page, we can expect a download speed of around 25-100Mbps and an upload speed of 5-10Mbps for the standard unit. Meanwhile, the expected latency ranges around 25-60ms. That is almost the same as having a 4G connection.

Both the Standard and High-Performance hardware features a motorised self-orienting satellite dish. Starlink’s WiFi router also supports up to 802.11ac WiFi 5 with dual-band 3×3 MIMO. The dish size for the High-Performance unit is 575mm x 511mm and an average power usage of 110-150W. In contrast, the Standard unit has a smaller 513mm x 303mm dish with a lower average power usage of 50-75W.

For residential use, the standard unit is the best option for your daily needs. Meanwhile, High-Performance is recommended for power users and enterprise applications. This hardware features improved weather resistance and 3x speeds at temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius.

The standard unit will cost you RM 2300 for the hardware, while the High-Performance equipment will cost you RM11613. Plus, the subscription fee for each plan is RM220 per month. However, be mindful that Starlink’s satellite broadband is a finite resource and has its own Fair Usage Policy. Interested? you can place your order here.
