Has your mother ever told you not to look at your phone before bed so that you won't go blind? However, you would still toggle on that ‘light filter’ on your phone and continue to scroll your phone at ease. Now, you may need to consider scrolling it without toggling anything on (yea, just be blind, don't care). Researchers from a university have found out that the blue light filters on smartphones are actually not helpful at all.
Recently, the University of Manchester conducted a study on a group of mice to see how they react to the blue light filters, and the result is shocking. They stated that the filters are actually not doing any better to help you promote the production of melatonin (the hormone that helps you to sleep). Instead, the filter is telling your brain not to sleep.

Anyway, the study was conducted on mice instead of humans, so its result was treated with skepticism rather than presented as a fact. Furthermore, the university didn’t conduct the study on a microbiological level, instead it was more of an observational study by exposing the mice to different colours of lights at different brightness.
Options like Night Shift from Apple and Night Light from Google were invented to protect us from the blue light that will cause symptoms like digital eye strain, retina damage and more. Some people would toggle it on while using their smartphones at night or low light conditions, which they believe will help them to fall asleep without being exposed to blue light.
Whether if it's true or not, I think you should always listen to your mom by putting your phone down before going to rest (because moms know best). Let us know what you think about this on our Facebook Page! For more tech news, stay tuned to TechNave.com.
