Studies say "Beauty Mode" is related to negative mental health so Google is turning it off by default

For a few years, many smartphone brands have set Beauty Mode on the camera UI by default. Usually found in Chinese branded phones (as well as Samsung), some Beauty Modes are still visible even if you turn it off. As popular as it may, recent studies have found that there is a correlation to negative mental health so Google has decided to turn it off by default.

As mentioned in their blog post, they too have conducted several studies and consulted with many children and mental health experts. From their research, it was noted that if the user is not aware that the beauty filter is on, it would set a "beauty standard" and tend to compare themselves to other people. With that said, Google is also encouraging other brands to do the same and advise not to use words like "enhancement", "beautification", "touch up" as well as "face retouching" as they indirectly tell the user that they're not beautiful enough.

Furthermore, Google will update their own Pixel phones to have the Beauty Mode option for the users. They will also add a new UI information on its function and renaming "Natural" to "Subtle". But what do you think about this? I personally dislike using Beauty Mode so I approve of their initiative. Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
