In conjunction with Mario Day which happened two days ago (Mar10), Lego is collaborating with Nintendo to make mini Lego versions of Super Mario characters, at least that’s what we expected. However, it turns out the two companies are up to something more than that. Today, a new way to play the beloved video game has been revealed and I wish I was a child again!

Lego and Nintendo not only have turned Mario into a Lego figurine, the companies have also added a tiny LCD display onto the character. The display is made to interact with players while they are playing a level of Super Mario game, which they can create out of different types of Lego bricks. Players can build the game with Lego pieces like warp pipes, question blocks, lava stones, and even Goombas!

For the Mario figurine to interact with each Lego brick, it is said that it uses technology like RFID. The display will show players visual feedback including telling them if Mario was hurt, the game’s timer, and some other facial expressions. Other than that, a Bluetooth button can also be spotted at the back of Mario, and it is rumoured that the figurine can be paired with smartphone apps to bring more fun features.
