All foldable phones look the sameit's either flipping vertically or folding horizontally. But have you ever heard of a tri-foldable display? TCL is currently working on that and it's currently under development.

Recently spotted at the SID 2024 exhibition in San Jose, California, USA, TLC unveiled the world's first 7.85-inch Tandem three-fold flexible folding display. According to sources, TCL calls this the "Free-Type" foldable display which can support a G- or Z-shaped folding style. When fully unfolded, the display is almost as long as a mainstream tablet.

In addition, the display also supports multiple technologies. This includes Tandem, LTPO and PLP, as well as high brightness, low power consumption and longevity. Sources report that the display's thickness is 472 microns, which is less than 0.5mm and the overall thickness can be controlled at 17mm. The bezels are extremely narrow as well.

Although it's still under development, the three-fold flexible folding display works with face unlock. TCL integrated a SUP (sensor under panel) design with a pixel density and the normal display area of the under-screen display is as high as 420PPI. This allows face unlock without the need for a punch hole or slots. Lastly, it can support a 120Hz refresh rate.

In the future, whenever that may be, we may start seeing more three-fold flexible folding display smartphones. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
