Today, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) announced to reaffirm its commitment to enhancing customer experience further. This will also enhance the capacity and value of the 2600 MHz spectrum band acquired from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recently.

The partnership with MCMC for a 20 MHz spectrum block of the 2600 MHz spectrum band was done through its subsidiary, Webe Digital Sdn. Bhd. (“webe”). Scheduled for 1 July 2022 onwards, the allocated block of 2575 MHz to 2595 MHz will become effective. On top of that, with a total applicable fee of RM37 million over five (5) years, there would be an upfront fee of RM7,060,000.00 and an annual fee of RM5,984,000.00 to be paid by 15 December each year.

According to TM Group CEO, Imri Mokhtar, he said that the increased capacity will enable TM to provide fixed and wireless access, and content to its retail and enterprise customers from home, office or on the move. The allocation of the spectrum also allows TM to support the national agenda in delivering extensive telecommunications coverage with high service quality, especially through the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) and the Malaysian Digital Economy blueprint (MyDIGITAL).

To put it in a simple context, the additional capacity layer will enable sustainable network growth and increase the ability to support subscriber uplift. We certainly hope that's the case. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
