TM will start moving more Unifi customers to private IP addresses

Did you know that you get assigned an IP address when you connect to the Internet? As more people get connected to the Internet, service providers have to start considering certain factors. For TM, it seems that the time is right to move away from public IP addresses.

According to TM, the company is predicting that IPv4 addresses would be exhausted soon. For your info, IPv4 uses a 32-bit IP address system and allows for a maximum of 4294967296 IP addresses. This is why certain Internet Service Providers (ISP) use IPv6 instead, which has more IP addresses available. But for TM, the company will be moving Unifi customers to private IP addresses instead.

Allegedly, this would provide for "more seamless connectivity and better security". This could mean that customers are assigned fixed IP addresses, though TM didn't elaborate on that. The migration process will apply to Unifi customers who are subscribed to the unifi 30Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mbps plans.

The migration will take about 2 to 5 minutes, so expect some network downtime soon. TM will also inform customers in advance, so you wouldn't be caught unawares while doing something important. That's all we know for now, but for more updates please stay tuned to TechNave.com.
