Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has assured that it will not increase electricity tariffs for 85% of domestic users. Its CFO, Datuk Nazmi Othman, revealed the matter after the company yesterday announced to Bursa Malaysia that it is setting a new, higher tariff schedule on 1 July 2025.

Nazmi was quoted by Bernama as saying that the decision is in line with the government’s resolution on 20 December to maintain electricity tariffs for the period from 1 Jan to 30 June 2025. He added that during this period, domestic users will not be affected by any price hikes or impacts as the government will absorb these through mechanisms such as the Electricity Industry Fund (KWIE).

Moreover, before the period ends, the government will evaluate and review the electricity tariff structure, considering current coal, gas and fuel prices before announcing any further decisions. In its announcement yesterday, TNB said that a new tariff schedule with a base tariff of 45.62 sen per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for Peninsular Malaysia under Regulatory Period 4 (RP4), compared to 39.95 sen/kWh under the Regulatory Period 3 (RP3) from 2022 to 2024.
