With Apple's A14 Bionic and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 being the current flagship chipsets, the demand for 5nm process naturally hikes up as well. It is reported that TSMC will increase the monthly production capacity from 60,000 pieces to 100,000 pieces in the second half of the year.

According to the source, the quarterly demand for the A14 chip alone is very high, not to mention that the M1 processors are also using the same process made by TSMC. The numbers are showing that M1 has acquired 18,000 pieces in Q4 2020. Other than Apple, Qualcomm is another big customer to the manufacturer as well. It is mentioned that TSMC will still need to expand the capacity as both companies are expected to increase their orders in the near future.

Other than that, Economic Daily has also reported that the chip manufacturer will increase its capital expenditure this year to $22 billion (~RM88 billion), setting a new all-time high. The investment is said to be used on the 3nm process and also the 5nm by covering the plant and equipment investments as well as the packaging technology. It will also be used for 2nm process research and development.
