Taiwan bans its government agencies from using DeepSeek

Taiwan has now banned government agencies from using the artificial intelligence (AI) services of Chinese startup DeepSeek, as it is considered a security risk. So, what should you know about it?

In a statement, Taiwanese Prime Minister Cho Jung-tai announced that the use of DeepSeek in all government agencies is banned to ensure the security of national information. The statement also mentioned that there were concerns about content censorship on DeepSeek and the risk of data falling into Chinese hands.

Previously, Taiwan's Digital Minister said government departments should not use DeepSeek but did not specifically state that it was banned. In addition to Taiwan, authorities in several countries including South Korea, France, Italy and Ireland are also investigating allegations of use of personal data by DeepSeek. That begs the question, would Malaysia do the same. That would be interesting to see.
