Taiwan has now announced that it will ban access to the Xiaohongshu service, also known as Red Note, for a year. That said, what should you know about it?

Ban was implemented because of security risks

For your information, Taiwan says this is due to security risks, involving more than 1700 fraud cases since 2024. Xiaohongshu is one of the most popular social apps, including in Malaysia, offering a user experience that is more or less like a combination of Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok. It is said to have around 3 million users in Taiwan.

Moreover, Xiaohongshu is said to lack a local team to comply with Taiwan's regulations and laws. The ministry is expected to issue an order to block internet access to the app for a period of one year. The ministry in Taiwan also asked users not to download it, and if they have downloaded it, to stop using it.
