Hey, TechNavers! Welcome to the first ever TechNave Gaming Newsbytes! Every Saturday we will be bringing to you the latest gaming news that has happened that week from Malaysia and around the world. This week has been pretty interesting in the gaming world and among them is a very interesting machine that was announced by Acer, which is the Acer Thronos.
Priced at RM 56999, it is a futuristic gaming throne which is comfortable and customizable to suit any gamers’ needs. It is definitely an experience but due to its price tag, it is not something we’d personally want to own as it costs as much as a decent car.
Other than that, here’s what’s cool that happened in the gaming world this week!
The KL Major is happening now!
The country's biggest DOTA2 tournament will be happening this weekend with a prizepool of USD $1Million (~ RM4190500). The KL Major is happening at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.
Witness your favourite teams battle it out for the champion title and while you're at it, might as well grab some official merchandise that will be sold at the venue from 9 am till 9 pm on all 3 days!
Sony Playstation will be skipping out on E3 2019
Prepare to be disappointed as Sony has announced that they will be skipping out on E3 2019. Reported by IGN.com, Sony and Playstation will be looking at new and familiar ways to engage with their audience. When asked if they would hold and offsite event, they replied “we will not activate or hold a press conference around E3”.
Sony did confirm that they do have a lot of exciting things to come and that some of their biggest games will have key milestones next year which they hope they will be able to share the news soon.
Some RTX 2080 Ti GPUs are defective
Everyone has been stoked about Nvidia’s new RTX 2080 Ti GPUs and their website has been sold out of the Founder’s Edition of the card for awhile now. However, over the past few weeks, there have been reports of the GPU breaking down and even bursting into flames.
Now, Nvidia has admitted in a forum post that there is a problem with the graphics cards. The forum mentions that the faulty cards are due to “test escapes” which basically means that devices with faulty parts escaped their certification process. If you've been looking forward to pick up a brand new RTX 2080 Ti graphic card, we'd suggest waiting a while longer as NVIDIA comes up with a solution.
New AMD RX 590 GPU announced
AMD has just announced the latest addition to their GPUs, the RX 590. The GPU is priced at $279 USD (~RM1169) and is built using the 12nm process technology and the AMD “Polaris” architecture.
The GPU can run popular AAA game titles upto 60 fps and popular esports titles up to 100 fps. You can already get your hands on the device worldwide from leading add-in-board partners.
PUBG is officially coming to the Playstation 4
Playstation owners who has been wanting to play PUBG on the console can rejoice as the game will be out on the 7th of December. The game will include all major features from the original game and will be available in 4 editions, which are:
- Disc Edition at $30 USD (~RM125): Base game
- Looter’s Digital Edition at $30 USD (~RM125): Base game
- Survivor’s Digital Edition at $50 USD (~RM 209): Base Game, Vikendi Event Pass, 2,300 G-Coin Pack, 20,000 BP
- Champion’s Digital Edition at $60 USD (~RM251): Base Game, Vikendi Event Pass, 6,000 G-Coin Pack, 20,000 BP
You will receive a Nathan Drake Desert outfit from the Uncharted series and Ellie’s backpack from the Last of Us to use in-game when you pre-order the game alongside a PUBG avatar theme.
Crackdown 3 finally has a release date
After many delays, Crackdown 3 will finally be released on the 15th of February with a new multiplayer mode called Wrecking Zone. The mode puts two teams of five against each other as they destroy buildings, level environments and demolish buildings. In addition, there are two other multiplayer modes called Blackout Zone and Nova Station as well.
Command & Conquer games will be remastered in 4K for PC
EA announced that it will be remastering both Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn as well as Command & Conquer: Red Alert in 4K. They will be partnering with Petroglyph Gaming, where the original devs of the game are as well as Malaysia’s own Lemon Sky Studio to upgrade the graphics. The game has been confirmed to have no microtransactions.
Mushi leaves Mineski
Mariah Ahmad reports that Mushi, a popular Malaysian DOTA2 professional player has now left Mineski. He wishes the team well and mentions that he is now a free agent. Mushi has been with Mineski since 2017 and among his achievements is bringing home the trophy for the DOTA2 Asia Major.
TechNave's game of the week: Destiny 2
If you've been eyeing Destiny 2 and haven't gotten round to playing it due to its hefty price, now's a good time to lock and load and fly into the game as the game is free to be claimed for keeps until the 18th of this month.
Destiny 2 is an interesting online only first person shooter with a pretty decent campaign in the base game. However, if you're interested in getting the Forsaken DLC, it will cost you USD $39.99 (~RM168).
