LG wins big at Asia Tech Awards 2018-2019

The inaugural Asia Tech Awards 2018-2019 kicked off this year, adding a new event that acknowledges the greatest tech and innovation of the year to the calendar. And the big winner for this first year turns out to be LG.

The Korean electronics giant won two awards to cap off the year of 2019. First is the Best Food Storage Award for its InstaView Door-in-Door Series and the second is the Best Dryer Award for its Dual Inverter Heat Pump Dryer. Let's take a look at what the two offers.

The Door-in-Door Series comes with impressive features such as a well designed inner storage that ensures you use every space available and FRESHBalancer along with Moist Balance Crisper to keep food fresh with the right amount of humidity and moisture. The most innovative feature thus far is the one that allows the contents of the fridge to be viewed through the InstaView Door-in-Door panel.

Besides that, it can also be monitored through the LG ThinQ app, making it the perfect IoT setup. Through the app, you can easily set the refrigerator temperature, control HygieneFRESH+ - a feature that removes bacteria up to 99.999% and minimises bad odour in the refrigerator, as well as diagnose your refrigerator for any possible issues it may have.

As for the LG Dual Inverter Heat Pump Dryer, it is equipped with an inverter compressor and an inverter motor that offers stellar energy efficiency of A+++-10%. It is also capable of supporting a range of circulation speed from very fast to slow and also provides Eco Hybrid or Time Mode options; all of which is meant to greatly enhance the drying efficiency of a user's laundry while also giving you the option to be more energy-efficient or get those dry clothes faster.

In the meantime, the Heat Pump technology keeps clothes from shrinking or getting further damaged from heat and also comes with an Allergy Care Cycle, which dissolves 99.9% of bacteria and allergens such as house dust mites and pollen. Like the InstaView Door-in-Door series, it can be monitored using LG's ThinQ app. You can find out more about the event at asiatechawards.org.

Mudah.my and Isobar Malaysia Prompt Malaysians to "Kena Sell"

image006.jpg

With all the online flash sales we've encountered in the last few months, it's time to ask if what we bought is necessary. Mudah.my thinks not and has launched a campaign titled ‘Kena Sales? Kena Sell!’ in a bid to help Malaysians declutter and sell unused goods on the online marketplace.

As new items make their way to users’ homes, the online marketplace is amping up its message to sell – offering users a way to earn back the money spent during the massive annual shopping spree. Set against the year-end sales period, the online platform is capitalising on the season’s noise to highlight its unique position as a marketplace that offers users a convenient platform to buy and sell anything, anytime, anywhere. The campaign, created together with Isobar Malaysia, supports Mudah.my’s mission to democratise commerce for Malaysians everywhere – reinforcing the platform’s value as a marketplace and differentiating it from e-commerce sites.

The "Kena Sales? Kena Sell!" campaign follows the online marketplace’s wildly successful "Memang Mudah" campaign, which was launched on the platform’s social media pages earlier this August. The videos have garnered nearly 21 million views on YouTube to date with its humorous storyline, where personified unused items were used to speak to the audience to help them see value in their preloved goods. For more information on how to sell on the platform, visit Mudah.my’s website at www.mudah.my.

New Netflix series Ghost Bride has some big stars

Netlix's has a new series that's more eastern in nature, a rarity as far as the streaming platform goes. The Ghost Bride is an adaptation of a New York Times bestseller of the same name created by Yangsze Choo. Set in 180s Colonial Malacca, Li Lan has been offered a marriage proposal from the wealthy Lim Family to become the "ghost bride" to their recently deceased son. The six-episode drama will be directed by award-winning Malaysian directors Quek Shio-Chuan and Ho Yu-Hang, written by an international team of screenwriters led by American-Taiwanese TV writer Kai Yu Wu, and stars Wu Kang Ren, Huang Peijia, Ludi Lin and Tian Tze Kuang.

GameBench now able to measure CPU usage on mobile devices

GameBench tools provide the easiest possible way to retrieve Normalised CPU Usage on an Android device for any app or game even if you are not the developer. In addition to the CPU Usage, the tools also report CPU Core States (Whether a CPU Core was online) and also their frequencies. For instance, an example chart for CPU Core Frequencies looks like below.

Core Frequency Chart.jpg

The chart shows a mobile chipset with an 8 Core CPU and with a glance you can see that the CPU Frequency was clocked up for the first 25 seconds or so and then the Android OS decided to clock all the cores to lower frequencies. In this case, the profiled app was loading resources from disk and as a result, had to operate all the cores at a higher frequency for 25 seconds. If you would like to try out CPU Usage for your mobile device, sign up for a GameBench Pro trial and have a quick go.

The Global Esports Federation (GEF) recently announced its official formation at a worldwide launch, with Tencent as one of the Global Founding Partners. The federation aims to create a value-based organisation cultivating collaboration and forging synergies, in order to develop and grow the connections between the esports community and the broader international sporting community.

This has set the future direction of esports, where the role of game publishers and providers in the field of esports is emphasised, and it also encourages conventional sports to consider ways and explore collaboration opportunities between game publishers. GEF is advocating the involvement of game publishers and providers by having Tencent E-sports join GEF.

At the same time, GEF sees an excellent opportunity for esports to learn from traditional sports in terms of experience in sports development, adhere to a "non-violence" stand, maintain fair competition, promote gender equality, prevent all kinds of malpractices and opportunistic behaviours, ban the use of stimulants, strengthen industry self-regulation, and care for players' development physically and mentally. GEF also believes that through organised and standardised activities that are in line with the Olympic values, esports will flourish in a positive and healthy direction.

Edward Cheng, who is also the Vice President of Tencent, is the one who has been appointed as Vice President of the GEF. He shared that Tencent E-sports will be cooperating with GEF focusing on areas, such as intellectual property, e-sports events’ organisations, talent education and training, business model, system and sustainable environment for the future developments of the esports ecosystem.
