Samsung Electronics envisions a way to 'Copy and Paste' the Brain on Neuromorphic Chips
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has shared a new insight that takes the world a step closer to realizing neuromorphic chips that can better mimic the brain. Envisioned by the leading engineers and scholars from Samsung and Harvard University, the insight was published as a Perspective paper, titled ‘Neuromorphic electronics based on copying and pasting the brain’, by Nature Electronics. Donhee Ham, Fellow of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) and Professor of Harvard University, Professor Hongkun Park of Harvard University, Sungwoo Hwang, President and CEO of Samsung SDS and former Head of SAIT, and Kinam Kim, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics are the co-corresponding authors.
The essence of the vision put forward by the authors is best summed up by the two words, ‘copy’ and ‘paste’. The paper suggests a way to copy the brain’s neuronal connection map using a breakthrough nanoelectrode array developed by Dr. Ham and Dr. Park, and to paste this map onto a high-density three-dimensional network of solid-state memories, the technology for which Samsung has been a world leader. Through this copy and paste approach, the authors envision to create a memory chip that approximates the unique computing traits of the brain – low power, facile learning, adaptation to environment, and even autonomy and cognition – that have been beyond the reach of current technology.
Leveraging its leading experience in chip manufacturing, Samsung is planning to continue its research into neuromorphic engineering, in order to extend Samsung’s leadership in the field of next generation AI semiconductors.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has revealed that the SmartThings Find service, which first launched in October 2020, continues to grow rapidly, now comprising more than 100 million find nodes. Powered by SmartThings, the premier technology enabling connected living, around 230,000 devices are located through this feature every day. Even if the device is offline, other Galaxy users can opt-in to enable their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others find nearby lost devices.
SmartThings Find is continuing to evolve with the addition of the newly launched SmartThings Find Members service, which now enables users to invite friends and family to become members of their SmartThings account, so they too can find and manage their devices. Users can now invite up to 19 other people to become members and locate up to 200 devices at once. Once someone has accepted your invitation to SmartThings Find Members, you can opt for them to be able to view your selected devices and locations for specific devices, all upon your consent.
SmartThings Find Members is particularly useful for families, as they try to keep up with pets or keep track of their car keys—even if they don't have their phone with them.

Dr. Fazril Razif, 34, Senior Lecturer and Fitness Instructor, Kuala Lumpur
Loyal Samsung Galaxy user, Dr. Fazril Razif believes that practicality is the key. In the Galaxy Z Series and Galaxy Watch4, he finds exactly that and so much more. “I’m not the most tech-savvy person, but I do love keeping up to date with the latest mobile releases, and honestly, they have come a long way. To me, Samsung has always been about practicality and innovation. They don’t hold back and continue to push the boundaries compared to other brands in the market.”
Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Fazril completed his Ph.D. in Synthetic Biology and is now a senior lecturer at a renowned public university. On a regular workday, he would go through his emails, coordinate meetings, and holds discussions with his students and colleagues about ongoing research projects. It can get hectic, and he finds that having the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G with him does wonders to his productivity.
“I absolutely love the phone. The feel of the phone in my palms is just indescribable. It feels like I’m holding the future. The chassis is sturdy and solid. I love the fact that I can have three apps open at the same time with the App Split View, and it proves to be handy when I need to edit my documents on the phone than having to turn on my laptop, thanks to its large 7.6–inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Getting most of my work done on the phone feels like a walk in the park.” Dr. Fazril added that the large display is indeed a game-changer. Scrolling through social media, messaging apps, and gaming on the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G have been a breeze for him, and he can now unwind and watch videos on the go on a larger screen, be it alone or even in the presence of family and friends.
When creativity strikes, Dr. Fazril enjoys taking pictures with the Galaxy Z Series. He would fiddle around with the settings to capture the perfect photo of the moment. “I make it a personal challenge to outdo the previous photos I’ve taken, and mobile photography is essential nowadays. So far, the Galaxy Z Series hit the marks.” On the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, he can enjoy various photography settings such as Night Portrait, Single Take (Dynamic Video), Director’s View, and AI face restoration. He also finds joy in quick selfies using the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G’s Quick Shot feature on the 1.9-inch Cover Screen, and the compact phone serves as a charming addition to his daily outfit. He can place the phones anywhere on a flat surface, and with the help of the advanced Flex mode , capturing studio-quality selfies hands-free is effortless.
Outside of academia, he is a part-time Les Mills BODYPUMP and PWRHOUSE spin instructor. Keeping an active lifestyle helps alleviate his daily work stress and doing so allows him to share his passion for fitness. “The large display on Galaxy Z Fold3 5G is amazing because I can comfortably practice my workout routines at home via on-demand videos without having to squint my eyes trying to watch and follow the choreography.”
The Galaxy Watch4 is another Galaxy device of his choice to accompany him on his fitness journey. “It’s a huge help when I need to instruct classes or go to the gym. I love tracking my workouts using the Galaxy Watch4, and I’m impressed by its array of features. Not only can it track my vitals across various exercises, but it can also provide me information on my heart health and Body Composition. It fits my active lifestyle perfectly,” he added.
Tracking sleeping patterns through Galaxy Watch4 helps Dr. Fazril improve his sleep quality through enhanced Sleep Scores, Snoring Detection, and Blood Oxygen monitoring. Before he calls it a day, Dr. Fazril gets to see his fitness progress and unwind by listening to Spotify using the Galaxy Watch4. It is made possible through the Galaxy ecosystem and seamless integration with a multitude of popular third-party apps.
For those who need the ultimate device to fuel their productivity to the fullest and shatter the boundaries of what a flagship device should be, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G is there to help you seize the day. It holds power, efficiency, and an impeccably immersive viewing experience for those who wish to see the bigger picture. The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G allows you to express yourself unapologetically with its compact size, new iconic design, and improved features. When paired with other devices under the Galaxy ecosystem, such as the Galaxy Watch4 Series and Galaxy Buds2, they can propel users into a world of vast possibilities so that you stay on top of the game and never miss a beat.
The most comforting thought is knowing that the Galaxy Z Series by Samsung is the world’s first foldable devices to earn an IPX8 water-resistance rating . Coupled with the sturdy combo of Armor Aluminum frames and Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus™, they’re made to handle just about any situation- at home, at work, or outside at the gym. Come rain or shine, or post-workout sweat, you know that your Galaxy Z Series and Galaxy Watch4 Series can handle the splash.
“The Galaxy Z Series and the Galaxy Watch4 gives me everything I want and need every day in my daily drivers. The phones still fit comfortably in my pocket, and the Galaxy Watch4 looks beautiful, sleek, and classy on my wrist- it feels odd going through a day without them now. I look forward to everything that life has to offer now that I have the best Galaxy devices with me,” he smiles.
