Reliable benchmarks are how consumers know if something is good. For cameras, we have DXOMARK for that. But how does anyone ensure that benchmarks are consistent? Well, automating the process could be the answer, which is what Tecno and DXOMARK aim to do.

Fully automated imaging lab announced

According to GadgetMatch, Tecno and DXOMARK have collaborated to build a new imaging lab in Chongqing (China) for such benchmarks. The lab is fully automated and uses DXOMARK's latest Camera V6 protocol, which is the company's protocol on how to test and evaluate camera performance. This lab aims to establish a new standard of testing with automated processes.

Consistency through precise machines

The lab's automation system has robotic arms with micron-level positioning accuracy, fully automated chart switching, and AI-controlled environmental simulation. In terms of materials, the lab uses scientifically calibrated 2D colour charts for accurate calibration of skin tones. Interestingly, the lab may also have "region-specific evaluations", as different regions may prefer different camera settings.
