Telcos are urged to upgrade service and coverage quality by the Malaysian government

Recently, our Minister of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) Tan Sri Annuar Musa just did a media interview regarding improving our mobile network. He is urging local telcos to reinvest and upgrade their coverage and telecommunications services to improve their quality.

During the interview, he said that although he is aware that telcos need to pay dividends to shareholders with high profits, they still need to be fair to consumers and act more seriously to invest. Case in point, many consumers said that they still have connection issues even though the coverage network in Malaysia has reached 98%.

With that in mind, the KKMM will be meeting with the top management of each telco for further discussion. On the other hand, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will conduct an audit and review the performance of each telco as well. Should the telcos fail to meet the established standards, they can be fined or compounded based on existing laws.

Meanwhile, the KKMM will also provide around 15 to 20 units of devices in each Malaysian Family Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) nationwide. PEDi is a one-stop centre to help rural communities gain access to the internet and build ICT-based skills. Have you also finally experienced the 5G connection?
