In conjunction with the new year, popular messaging platform Telegram has introduced several new features that would further improve users’ experience with the app. These include a revamped media editor with a host of new tools, new storage options and even customised profile pictures for your contacts.

Revealed in an official blog post, one of the more stand-out new features is a new blur tool on Telegram’s media editor that allows users to blur out certain areas of a photo or video. As such would allow users to hide sensitive information or even blur out the faces of unwanted photobombers in their photos.

Furthermore, the drawing tools now dynamically change width based on drawing speed and automatically smooth lines drawn by users. There are also 5 high-precision ways to choose colour now, including the Eyedropper tool.

Text tools also got an upgrade, whereby users can now change size, font and background when adding text to photos or videos. Moreover, Telegram also said that adding custom animated emoji to text on images is available for all users, even if they don't have a Premium subscription.

Besides that, the app now has support for Hidden Media or spoiler formatting to hide any text in messages. This works for covering photos and videos with a blurred layer too, with recipients only needing to tap once to view the content.

For those that are always short on storage space on their devices, Telegram has introduced Zero Storage Usage which allows users to remove media and documents from the phone's storage and re-download them from their Telegram cloud at any time. Other notable new features include the ability to choose a profile picture for your contact (only you will see it on their profile), suggest profile photos to contacts, hide group members, new animated emoji and new progress animations on Android.
