Minister of International Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz announced that US-based chip maker Intel has given its commitment to invest over RM30 billion in Malaysia. The investment is in regard to the company’s operations expansion in Penang and Kulim, Kedah.

As reported by Bernama, Tengku Zafrul said that the investment would create over 4000 jobs at Intel and over 5000 jobs in the construction sector. The International Trade and Industry Minister asserted that Intel’s commitment is welcomed and similar cooperations will also be continued with other companies in an effort to increase investment in Malaysia.

Tengku Zafrul was quoted as saying the above after meeting with Intel chief global operation officer Kevyan Esfarjani in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday (18 January 2023). Previously in 2021, Intel announced the investment to build a new chip-packaging and testing factory in Malaysia that will begin production in 2024.
